AEShot Studio for Mac · Effective 23 October 2026
What stays on your computer
Your recordings, guides, screenshots, exports and settings are saved on your computer: in the app until you choose a folder, then in the folders you choose. A folder can be a cloud folder such as iCloud Drive, where your cloud provider’s terms apply. I never receive any of it.
Guide projects keep the original screenshots, so you can change what you redacted later; exports contain only the edited pictures, with redacted areas removed. Review every guide before you share it: the app cannot find every password or confidential detail.
What AEShot Studio does not do
- No account: AEShot Studio works without signing up.
- No ads, no third-party SDKs and no tracking of what you do in AEShot Studio. The only thing counted is the number of installations, anonymously, as described below.
- No uploads: your recordings, guides, screenshots and exports are never sent anywhere, including to me.
- No sale or sharing of data. The little I receive is used only for what this policy describes.
What the app captures, and when
Only after you start a session with a button, and only until you stop it:
- Record Video records the display or window you chose, where the pointer moves and where you click (for automatic zooms), and when you scroll (only the moment, so scrolling is not taken for waiting). If you turn them on, it also records your camera, your microphone and the sound your computer plays.
- Create Guide takes a screenshot of the display or window you chose for each step: when you click (if you leave that on) or use Add Step. It notes mouse-button presses (position and time) to make steps. It records no video, no sound and no keys.
- Video + Guide does both.
- While a session is paused, nothing is captured or noted.
Permissions
On a Mac, macOS asks for each permission the first time you use a feature that needs it. You can change them at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security.
- Screen Recording: for every recording and guide.
- Camera and Microphone: only when you turn them on for a video.
- Input Monitoring: only for the optional typing sounds and keyboard shortcuts in videos, both off by default. For typing sounds, the app notes when a key is pressed and whether it is a letter, space, return or delete, never which key. For shortcuts, it notes only combinations with Command or Control (such as ⌘C), to show them in the video, never other keys. Neither happens while you make a guide.
- Speech Recognition (macOS 14 and 15): only when you create captions. On macOS 26 and later, captions use Apple’s speech models on your Mac; macOS may download the model for a language the first time you use it.
Text recognition
For steps made by a click, the app can suggest a description from the text under the click. This runs on your computer and is only a suggestion: nothing recognized is saved or exported unless you choose to use it.
Camera background and voice
To blur or replace the background behind you, the app finds the person in each camera frame, on your computer. To clean up your voice, find pauses and lower music under speech, it measures how loud the recording is over time, on your computer, and keeps those levels in the project. Music you choose is copied into the project.
Counting installations
AEShot Studio counts its installations, so that I know how many are in use. It does so anonymously:
- What is sent: about a minute after AEShot Studio starts, and then once a day while it runs, it sends aeshot.com an installation number, together with the name of the app, its version, the platform (Mac, Windows or Linux) and the system version, such as 15.1. The number is made on your computer from the system’s own computer ID with a one-way code: it stays the same when you update or reinstall AEShot Studio, so each computer counts once, but it says nothing about your computer and cannot be turned back into its ID. The computer ID itself never leaves your computer.
- What I keep: for each installation, a one-way code made from its number (never the number itself), the app, the platform, the app and system versions of its latest count and the first and last day it was counted; and for each day, how many installations were counted. I do not keep your IP address: to limit abuse, the server counts requests per address for one hour, under a one-way code. Nothing about who you are, and nothing about your files.
- How long: an installation not counted for 180 days is deleted, with everything kept for it. The daily totals, which are only numbers, are deleted after 400 days.
- Turning it off: in AEShot Studio, choose Settings › General and turn off “Count this installation”. From then on it sends nothing for the count.
Reviews
If you write a review in AEShot Studio (Write a Review…) or on aeshot.com with its installation ID, it is sent to aeshot.com only when you send it:
- What it sends: your rating, the name you choose, your text, the app and its version, your system (macOS, Windows or Linux) and its version, the app’s language and the installation’s anonymous number. No email address and no account.
- What I keep: the review with these details, and the installation’s number only as a one-way code, so that each installation can send one review of each app. To limit abuse, the server counts the reviews sent from an internet address for one hour, under a one-way code of the address; it never keeps the address itself.
- What is shown: nothing until I have read the review. Once approved, it appears on the app’s page and on the home page of aeshot.com with your name, stars, text, system and date; the list of reviews the pages load also carries the app’s version and language, never the installation’s number or your system’s version. For the check, the review reaches me by email and as a notification on my phone, delivered through Apple’s push notification service.
- Removal: write to support@aeshot.com with the app, the name and the date of your review, and I delete it. What stays is only the one-way code of the installation, so that it cannot send another review of that app. How reviews work
Looking for updates
Once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, AEShot Studio downloads the list of versions from aeshot.com. The request carries the app’s name and version and the version of your system and, like every request on the internet, your IP address; my server keeps no logs. An update is downloaded from aeshot.com and installed only when you agree. You can turn the daily check off in Settings › General. Apart from this, the app makes no network connections.
Support email
If you write to support@aeshot.com, I receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to answer you. You can ask me to delete them at any time.
This website
aeshot.com uses no cookies, analytics, advertising or third-party content, and the server keeps no access logs.
Children
AEShot Studio is not aimed at children. Apart from the anonymous count of installations, it collects no data about anyone, including children. A review you write in the app is sent only when you send it.
Your rights
I hold no data about you from the app. For support emails, you can ask for access, correction or deletion at support@aeshot.com. A review you write in the app is sent only when you send it.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new effective date.
